Job Summary
The Human Resources Manager will oversee HR operations in Borno and Yobe states, working under the HR Director’s leadership. Key responsibilities include recruitment, onboarding, employee engagement, staff development, and compliance with Mercy Corps’ HR policies. The role involves field travel and managing HR staff to ensure smooth and effective HR functions across the country.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Vision:
- Implement HR systems and provide daily HR advice to managers and staff.
- Assist in developing and monitoring the annual HR work plan.
- Lead training and development programs tailored for Mercy Corps staff.
Recruitment, Selection, and Onboarding:
- Ensure recruitment complies with guidelines and regulations.
- Oversee orientation for new hires, providing necessary documentation and resources.
- Support national and expatriate staff by ensuring access to HR policies and tools.
Human Resource Management:
- Ensure compliance with the National Staff Handbook across Mercy Corps offices.
- Act as a link between HR and employees, addressing work-related issues and HR policy queries.
- Maintain staff records and HR systems for leave, performance management, and personnel files.
- Manage relationships with health insurance providers and handle termination processes in line with Mercy Corps policies.
- Lead HR staff development and team-building efforts.
- Supervise and orient new team members while promoting a culture of mutual respect and accountability.
Team Management:
Safeguarding Responsibilities:
- Actively incorporate safeguarding practices and respect for dignity into work.
- Ensure compliance with security policies and create a safe, inclusive work environment.
Qualifications & Experience
- A Master’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- A minimum of 7 years of HR management experience, particularly in the INGO sector.
- Knowledge of Nigerian employment practices and donor regulations.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Skilled in using Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work with diverse teams and handle confidential information discreetly.
