The King’s College London Department of Informatics, along with the Departments of Engineering and Geography, want to hire a Research Assistant for Spatial Data Analytics in Delivery Logistics. The job will be at Bush House, Strand Campus.

This job is part of a research project aimed at improving delivery services using green transport like cargo bikes, electric vehicles, and walking or biking.

The project is a joint effort by staff from the Departments of Informatics, Engineering, and Geography at King’s College London, along with other universities and businesses.

The hired person will help the project by providing data science results for eco-friendly delivery methods.

Essential criteria

To do well in this job, candidates need these skills and experience:

  • At least an MSc degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a similar field.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, R, or similar languages, and experience with geospatial libraries like Geopandas and GDAL, as well as visualization libraries like Matplotlib and Seaborn.
  • Ability to find patterns in space and time data, such as trends, correlations, and distributions.
  • Knowledge of machine learning techniques and how to use them with spatial data using libraries like Sklearn, Pytorch, and Tensorflow.
  • Good at writing and speaking English.

Desirable criteria

  • Genuine interest in environmental sustainability.
  • Understanding of e-commerce, delivery logistics, and urban planning.
  • Familiarity with logistics optimization methods, such as integer programming, metaheuristics, and algorithms.

Please note that this is a PhD-level role, but candidates who have submitted their thesis and are awaiting the award of their PhDs will be considered. In these cases, the appointment will be made at Grade 5, spine point 30, with the title of Research Assistant. Upon confirmation of the PhD award, the job title will become Research Associate, and the salary will increase to Grade 6.
