Background

DRC has been operational in Nigeria since 2015, providing life-saving assistance and protection to vulnerable populations in the northeast regions of Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe states. The organization focuses on areas such as armed violence reduction, humanitarian mine action, livelihoods, nutrition, protection, shelter, and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH).

Purpose

The EMAP Assistant will supervise protection activities and teams within their assigned area. They are responsible for the implementation and organization of protection activities in alignment with international standards and work plans. This role involves traveling to various locations, managing protection assistants, participating in local coordination meetings, and liaising with key stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Implement and supervise protection activities at the field level.
  • Manage and oversee field protection incentive workers.
  • Prepare and submit necessary activity and protection reports.
  • Conduct needs and programmatic assessments in targeted locations.
  • Identify and intervene in protection cases, referring them to partner agencies.
  • Document and update all protection activities in Kobo.
  • Engage communities to raise awareness on human rights, child protection, and SGBV.
  • Train community members, partner staff, and local authorities on protection topics.
  • Identify and report protection trends to the line manager.
  • Conduct advocacy and sensitization activities at the field level.
  • Represent DRC in partner discussions and community meetings.
  • Recruit casual social workers as needed.
  • Manage DRC protection assets in the field.
  • Coordinate with security officers regarding field base security.

Eligibility

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Psychology, Social Work, Social Sciences, Counseling, Education, Human Rights, Development Studies, or relevant equivalent disciplines.
  • Experience: Minimum of two years working in a humanitarian organization or with displacement-affected populations, or significant experience as a DRC Protection social or outreach worker.
  • Skills: Knowledge of protection norms, principles, and activities. Excellent communication skills, professional fluency in English, Hausa, Kanuri (added advantage), strong interpersonal, negotiation skills, and good facilitation skills.
