Eligibility

  • Must be a UK/EEA citizen or have completed a doctorate at a UK university.
  • Alternatively, must demonstrate a strong prior association with the UK academic community.

  • Must be within three years of the doctorate award (viva between 1 April 2022 and 1 April 2025).
  • Exemptions may be granted for special circumstances.
  • Permanent academic staff are ineligible.
  • Can apply only once in the three-year eligibility period.
  • Previous applicants can reapply only if invited by the British Academy.

Applications

  • Send applications to the Fellowships Administrator by 12:00 noon BST on Monday, 19 August 2024.
  • Applications should include:
    • A two-page CV with PhD viva and award dates.
    • A list of publications (maximum one side).
    • A completed internal selection form, including the name of a proposed mentor.
      • The mentor should help integrate you into the department and is typically a Cambridge academic staff member willing to support your CRASSH project.
    • A Letter of Support from the Head of Department is not required at this stage. If selected, the Director of CRASSH will prepare the necessary document.
    • Names and details of two referees:
      • One should be your PhD supervisor or someone who knows your work well.
      • The other should be the person who will write your reference if invited to submit a full application to the British Academy (ideally an external examiner or another external person).
  • The full application deadline to the Research Office is 02 October 2024. Ensure your application reaches CRASSH by 12:00 noon BST on Monday, 19 August 2024.
